Robert Semchyshyn is the President of Tri-Star Technical Ltd.. He has worked in the field of structured cabling, voice/data, fiber optic, audio/video and wireless installations for over 31 years. In 1996, Robert became one of the first BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designers (RCDD) in Manitoba, a certification he still maintains today.
Robert holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba (1988) and a Diploma in Telecommunications from Red River College (1990). He was a board member for the Telecommunications program at Red River College for three years.
In 2015, Labour and Immigration Minister, Erna Braun, appointed Robert to a three-year term on the Board of Electrical Examiners; the board provides advice on matters relating to the Electricians License Act, assessment of limited special trade electrical examination applications, and any part of electrical work in the Province of Manitoba.
In 2016, Robert Semchyshyn became the president of the Electrical Association of Manitoba. He is the first President to hold the position for a three year term. While as president, through the Worker Compensation Board Research and Workplace Innovation Program (RWIP), a Project Advisory Committee was established with key stakeholder representation from labour, industry, public sector and training providers to develop five training courses to reduce the risk of injury to electrical workers, improve safety culture in the electrical community and fill a gap in the current training offered to electrical workers in Manitoba. Prior to be being president for the Association, Robert was chair of the membership committee and presently holds the chair for the Industry Standards.
In addition to the Electrical Association of Manitoba, Robert was also on the Communications Technician Committee that helped develop the curriculum and exam requirements for the Voice/Data/Video Class M License for the Province of Manitoba. Robert continues to provide technical support to many of the Electrical Engineers in Manitoba. In 2018, the Winnipeg Construction Association approached Robert to be part of a group mandated with conducting a comprehensive review of the Manitoba Trade Definitions, which was published in 2019.
Robert has completed many specialty training programs with manufacturers including Belden, Berk-Tek, CommScope, Corning, Federal Pioneer, Hubbell, Leviton, Omron, Panduit, Specified Technologies Inc. (Fire Stop Instructional training), and various courses with the Construction Safety Association of Manitoba, The Canadian Construction Association (Gold Seal Program) and the Total Quality Management program.
Robert is a member of BICSI, The Construction Safety Association of Manitoba, The Fiber Optic Association, Merit Contractors’ Association, Winnipeg Construction Association, Winnipeg Executives Association, and The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce.
